A Nikon Focus Block (for a microscope) currently at $9.99; looks like an older model with 0.002mm divisions. I have the same model and it is excellent.

This one didn't sell, they didn't know what brand and it didn't appear to have a fine focus knob, although it looks well suited to maybe even unscrewing the arms rather than having to saw it all off.

I doubt that it would be of any use for what we do; you need the type in my original post. There is another of these currently on ebay, ending tomorrow (under Nikon microscopes).

+1 to NU's recommendation. This is an excellent focus block--I have one in my rig (detailed views available here: http://photomacrography.net/forum/viewt ... ht=bratcam (or just search for "Bratcam").
I also pop mine off the high-mag rig for field use on a tripod with regular macro lenses. It's much better and cheaper than the commercial macro sliders I've tried.
Actually, I see two on eBay. Tempting to acquire another to dedicate to field use.
