Anyone have an ideas or experience with a lens like this?

A new lens is the last thing I need right now but I came across this Noritsu Zoom lens at a ridiculous price of $3.93 USD, I couldn't pass it up. It was sold as a minilab printing lens but now that I have it home and I see the size of this thing, I doubt its off a minilab, I'm thinking DLP, or projection lens, due to the size, 140mm x 100mm! There are two motors hanging off the back, one for aperture and one for zoom.

I'll remove it from the mount and do a quick sharpness test tomorrow. I have zero expectations for this lens to be a real discovery unfortunately, other than I wasted $4.00. Maybe I'm wrong.

Best,

Robert

That's funny, I was just looking at a different noritsu lens on eBay and wondering if anyone had tried one. Super looking forward to this! Iirc you posted about a different Noritsu lens but didn't follow up, I assume it must have been underwhelming.

Yes, true, I think in this case I'm just behind on my schedule.

Other Noritsu lenses are decent image makers, the fixed focal lengths can be very good. The Noritsu 4/32mm is surprisingly good at 3.4x: https://www.closeuphotography.com/35mm-lens-test

Also some of the zoom lenses seem to be decent. I have maybe 3 or 4 of the list below that I still need to test. One of the forum members SimpleJoy likes a couple of these listed.

NORITSU 135-173/8-9.4
NORITSU 112-145 f/8-9.4
NORITSU 86-120 f4.5-5.6
NORITSU 70-111 F4.5-5.6
NORITSU 60-90 f4.5-5.6
NORITSU 38-60mm F4-4.8
NORITSU 26-49 mm f/4

I'm working on a few tests already so I need to finish those first before I start anything else.

I'll update this thread tomorrow with more.

Best,

Robert

Indeed, I like them a lot and mostly used them for close-up and macro experiments so far. I love their rendering. If you’re interested you can find quite a few images made with them (when searching for Noritsu) on my flickr page:

There are some other mentions and tests of these lenses online but mostly in Japanese and with really small sample images.

Some of them might not be easy to adapt… but still nothing compared to the beast Robert tried here. And I guess the giant Noritsu El-Zoom Nikkor (also mentioned in another thread) is even more massive.
