Mitutoyo qv spacers

Post by Scarodactyl »

Quick question for those out there who have worked with mitutoyo qv objectives. If you removed the extra spacer, how did you remove the extra spacer? I have a 2.5x here I'd like to try out but I'd prefer to remove the spacer to make it more directly comparable with a normal 5x. The spacer feels like it's glued on, and my strap wrench doesn't budge it.

No direct experience with the specific objective, but I have taken apart a Mitutoyo eyepiece. In your case holding the objective so the main front element is up, and then take TCE on a Q-tip to the part that meets the metal body of the objective should allow solvent to creep into the threads. Lectra-Clean by CRC is a safer alternative if the spacer is plastic. Not certain of the exact cement used at the factory. Worst case heat cycling with a hot air station / solvent.
