Cheap New Mitutoyo M Plan 5X

Post by EricRed »

I came across some Mitutoyo M Plan 5X objectives from a place called Lightglass Optics being sold as "NEW and sealed in their factory Mitutoyo box" for $420. (See http://www.lightglassoptics.com/Mitutoy ... p_789.html). They currently have 48 of these. Lightglass appears to carry an assortment of optical equipment, mostly used. I could not find anything that comes close to their price. Even if you would go for something used from China, this isn't a bad price. Has anybody purchased (maybe tested) one of these?

Sorry for not searching before posting. Looks like it is legitimate. I think I might go for one.

No worries. It's nice to be reminded that these are still available.

I bought one of the Lightglass 5X ones. Pristine, seems OK optically.

I bought one from Lightglass as well - was factory sealed and works great! They were very responsive.

That price for a new mitutoyo 5/0.14 seems like a bargain. However I see some of their pictures show old Mitutoyos, which I would not recommend buying.
If in doubt I would always ask for more pictures showing the S/N

Well, I pulled the trigger on a Lightglass Mitutoyo 5X and got it today. I won't be able to do anything with it for a while, but it looks very good, brand new. The carton was sealed. The model number ends in a "-6", indicating it is the most recent version. The glass is pristine. Even the case looks new and improved. The case's base isn't the orange plastic cap I'm familiar with. Instead it's larger and appears to have a threaded metal insert where the objective mounts. Time will tell, but right now I'm happy.
