Information about Nikon CFI Plan 10X Achromat Objective MRL00102 and Reflex Full Frame

Post by OioMik »

I have a question mainly for Canon users:

I have an old Canon 5dI. I use it with tele 70-200 F4 IS @200mm with Nikon 4x lens to take my macro shots.

I would like to buy the Nikon 10x in the subject, and would like to know if it's ok on this setup, and if i can use it also a,t example, 160mm to reduce a bit the magnification, without losing resolution at the corners/borders.

Is it possibile to use it in the range of magnification 5..10x?

I read that on APC it can be used from 5 to 10x.

Thank you.

This objective is famous for its big image circle so almost for sure it can cover FF at 10X, not likely at 5X with good quality at the periphery. Be aware that it is designed to fill a 25mm image circle at 10X.
I use the same Canon zoom as tube lens with the same objective on APSC and it begins to vignette at 140mm, so it wont work for your intended purpose when you go shorter than 200mm. Test it with your 4X

If you search MRL00102 at the forum you'll find relevant info on the objective

The first version of the Canon EOS 5D did not include Live View, so you will need to find a way to avoid vibration from the mirror and shutter.

The Mark II and later include Live View.

Maybe speedlights on low power settings as light source could solve this?

i can confirm canon full frame+tele70-200 f4 is + Nikon CFI Plan 10X is perfectly usable at 200mm, not below (on full frame).
only a small part of the corners is slightly darker.
