If I were you, I'd wait until FEDEX contacts you about any problem.
FYI.
How it worked with Fedex International last time was I received the package from South Korea in just a couple of days. Then a few days later I received a bill in the mail from Fedex Int Customs brokerage for balance due (25+2.3% due on an Inspec.x L lens).

I might get hit with a huge bill this time.

Will let you know what happens.

Wish me luck.

Best,

Robert

Wow, that's much less well-organized than the way FEDEX works here in Ecuador. When I recieve a package, they write me an email and call me to let me know what the cost will be. They also ask me what the thing is so they can look up the duty. You can be vague about that. They also give me the option of using my own broker rather than paying FEDEX to get it through customs.

I'd check first. There's a fair chance that once the declaration has been made, you can't change it to a temporary import. Not that I know anything about the US practices...

Wow, how nice! Such personal service :D

I watched a lens travel in a Fedex package move from Seoul to Los Angeles once, it was dropped off at 5PM, and by 8 or 9PM it already cleared customs in Anchorage and was in Alaska at 1AM, and to LA by 5 AM and at my front door at 9 or 10 AM. So in this case Fedex is putting a priority on speed.

Seoul to Los Angeles cost the shipper something like $21! How do they do that. It costs me $90 to ship Fedex to Florida! #-o

They don't have many customers here, so they can take the time to do that.

Quick update, looks like I have the slowest Fedex International Priority shipment in history. #-o

3 days since pick up and its still sitting in Germany. At this rate its going to be here in Spring. :D

Fedex in Asia takes less than 24 hours to move a lens in a box from China or Korea to Los Angeles at the same service level. Just a few hours from drop-off at 5 or 6 PM the box is already in Alaska.

Oh no! Thanks, I don't feel so bad now. :D

When HK was having big demonstrations, I think that was 2019?, all the carriers hubs were closed so a package from China went the long way around to Dubai and then the EU to the US. Still only took a couple of days but that was DHL not Fedex!

Couple of updates.

Fedex released the package with the Mag.x 8x :D =D>

_fedex-hi.jpg

This is important.
Turns out anything over $2500 USD value, not invoice cost, but value (this objective had a cost of zero but a value of $16K EUR) will be stopped. Fedex customs will need your social security number for a private party or my corporation's EIN number, and a signature with contact info on file to clear the item.

Fedex waited 4 days to tell me it needed the info and my signature, once that was done everything was fine.

They still haven't told me if any duty or cost will be charged, I'm keeping quiet until I get the lens {-o<

Will let you know when it arrives, Fedex is promising tomorrow AM.

Best,

Robert

Yeah, right!

....and xTra heavy...I handed it to my wife so she would feel the weight and you know what happened right? She didn't expect it to feel as heavy as lead so it pushed her hand straight down, luckily it was above my desk so her hand stopped it from hitting the desk so her hand hit the desk with a thud! Good thing she wasn't standing over a tile floor
