Diffuser for the EF-M 28mm Macro

Post by Adalbert »

Hello everyone,
Does anybody know how to build and mount a diffuser close to the LED-ring?

Hi Adi,

There should be a thread around the lens. It's used to mount the Canon ES-22 hood. You would have to measure the thread size, mount a step/spacer ring and then mount a diffuser to the ring. You can take a diffuser material like sheet polystyrene and cut out a doughnut shape using a circle cutter.

Hi Ichty,
Yes, the filter with the tread of 43mm can be mounted.
So, an UV-filer (or step down ring) could be destroyed in order to build something like that:

But such rings are mostly made of aluminium :-(

Hi Adi,

My understanding is that the ES-22 hood is held by a small thread around the front lens. Let's say it's around 25 mm. http://www.jjc.cc/index.php/Product/pro ... fo/id/1669

You can get a 25 mm filter ring https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/264241507020, remove the glass and attach the ringshaped diffuser https://www.metaphase-tech.com/wp-conte ... t-4web.jpg to the outside of the 25mm ring, like an umbrella. It's flimsy but it won't have to bear any weight.

There are plastic replacement versions https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cellonic%C2%AE ... B07H5GH68Q so maybe that's an option for your modified hood!

43mm> ie 55mm step-up adaptor
55mm> ie 52mm STEP-DOWN (concentric/doughnut shaped)
Tape diffuser onto the ring.

Example
x1.jpg
Imagine the inner black rim is a ring light
x2.jpg
Now cut out an aperture
x3.jpg
Used 52mm > 77mm step-up, then 77mm-55mm step-down
Reason why I couple filters like this is to make taping the diffuser easier whilst not obstructing the front optics. Though for macro, it wouldn't matter.

So the front stretches out? It's still simple.
43mm>58mm
M58 spacer (cheap macro tubes)
Or to 52mm and use Nikon K tubes, $25 off ebay.

Then step down and use the method above.

Hi guys,
Many thanks for the hints!
The best solution probably would be something like that:
