Minolta DImage 5400 lens - actual resolution?

Post by Beatsy »

In all the discussions about the DImage 5400 lens, did we ever determine it's actual resolution subject-side (smallest resolvable distance in microns)?

I've scouted around on here and wasn't able to find any numbers. Even a theoretical/calculated figure will help...

Thanks

Have you read this report on the 5400 II ? Almost at the end, under the heading "Picture Quality" they tested with a USAF test chart.

from all the tests around it seems to me that it's comparable to a printing nikkor on small sensors.
if we look at page 9 of the printing nikkor 2:1 at coinimaging we get around 3.5um:

and looking at that graph and assuming that one can push it to around 3:1 before empty magnification kicks in, I'd say something between 2.5 and 3um, but probably only at the center.

Thanks both - confirms my guesstimate (from a few test images). Cheers.
