I had that 55mm (APO-) Computar but either sold it or dislocated it...
Quite nice, came in nice box. Happened to talk to the designer once before he deceased, he sent me a bunch of documents about the Computar lenses; need to dig it out...

Also have quite of others of that series...

Mr Kostenko, that seller, was after my lens like the devil after a soul but this is not mine ;-)

Thanks for the info! I guess it wasn't anything special if you don't still have it in your possession?

Any of the other lenses in that series worth it? Always hard to find a non-delaminated/separated copy on eBay and even if you do you wonder if it's just going to run into those issues eventually anyway.

I picked up the 8-element Bogen 4/60 that I mentioned earlier in this thread. Unfortunately it's no good, the Osawa/Hoya/Bogen 3.5/40 of the same series seems to be a better performer. Maybe I got a bad copy but it is in flawless condition so must've come that way from the factory or perhaps knocked about in its box.

Well it is good, but having over 1000 lenses makes it hard at times to locate one ;-)

Indeed, the Computars tend to delaminate.

The Bogen 4/60 I also have (two diff makers actually, HOYA) and it performs rather well! See here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/kds315/al ... 8515492304

I ran some informal tests when I first got the Bogen. I was using a small metal ruler as it gave me an indication of magnification, CAs, corner performance, and ability to resolve detail (mainly dust on the ruler). Some of those test photos with various lenses can be found at the below link and even though I put the Bogen 4/60 up against some good performers, it didn't do nearly as well as I had hoped.

Perhaps even 1.5x is beyond its optimal range. I've tried it again occasionally in a stacked configuration but haven't come across anything that would make me use it over the 4/75 Magnagon or 6.6/60 Apo Componon HM.

Dislocating lenses sounds painful.. So that was why you were after my copy of that lens. Have you seen any copy of that lens without delamination issues in the last few years?

I haven't been looking since, only a friend of mine (he wanted a 55mm, hence why I asked), has a few delaminated zoom ones...

Delaminated zoom ones - you mean Computar dl zoom lenses? I have some machine vision zoom lenses labelled Computar, no enlarger lenses though.

On the internet there is a lot of old design info on these enlarger lenses, once considered to be the very best.

See the links discussed here for particular lenses:
