pulley with 60 or 100 teeth and bore 4mm for the THK KR2001

Post by Adalbert »

Hello everybody,
As already announced in:
http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/v ... 408#242408
I’m creating this thread in order to discuss the mounting of the NEMA 17 to the THK KR2001.
I would like to use the GT2 pulleys: 60 teeth on the THK and 16 teeth on the NEMA 17.
The advantage would be that I could move the rail manually by the usage of the big pulley.
e.g.

if you get the new KR20, buy a pair (one for 4mm shaft for the KR20, and one with correct shaft diameter for your …
It is difficult to find any pulley with many teeth and bore 4mm for the THK KR 20 :-(

You can always add a sleeve to the shaft to increase the diameter. Something like this:

Hello Ray,
OK, it is a workaround.
If I didn’t find any with 4mm bore I would use it.

Hello Gene,
Thank you for the link!

Are you sure bore not pitch?
I didn't find any with the bore 4mm for GT2 :-(

Check the index on the 1st page. They're listed in several pitches and widths. Also GT-2 and GT-3 are interchangeable.

Hi Gene,

OK, I have tried to search for the pulleys with the bore 4mm in the PDF :-(

I only have found some offers in ebay for the pulleys with the bore diameter of 4mm:
but with max. 20 teeth :-(

BTW, may I really combine GT2 with GT3 ?

There are no GT3 pulleys. There are GT2 and GT3 belts. Each of these are available in 2mm, 3mm, 5mm, 8mm pitch. Unfortunately most ebay, aliexpress, 3d print shops, etc. call GT2 - 2mm only GT2.

I have 3d printed GT2-3mm pulleys as well as CNC machined them. I don't think my 3d printer would make acceptable GT2-2mm pulleys, but commercial printers may be able to hold tighter tolerances.

Hi Elf,
Thank you for the info.
But what about the pulleys with the bore 4mm?
I haven’t found any with more than 20 teeth up to now :-(
I would like to use one on the THK KR2001.

NEMA 17 : GT2, 2mm, 20 teeth / 5mm bore
THK KR2001: GT2, 2mm, 60 teeth / 4mm bore

A bushing would probably be your best bet. This steel pipe (DOM) from Misumi should work.

This 60t pulley has a 6mm bore.

Hello Elf,
Yes for 60T, probably pipe or shaft coupling.
BTW, what about the brass pipe 4mm in order to get 5mm ?

The advantage would be that I could move the rail manually by the usage of the big pulley.
Won't there be the need to decouple the traction form the motor, or how will this work?

If the stepper driver/controller can enable and disable the stepper, then using a handwheel works fine. The stepper will generate voltage when driven manually, so the controller may need protection. Here's a screenshot showing stepper and pulley on the Z axis of my rose engine. The handle on the large pulley isn't shown.
