Help Request About Mitutoyo Lens Choice

Post by lonepal »

Hi everyone;

My Macro Lenses are;

1) Lomo 3.7X
2) Rodagon 50mm f2.8
3) Componon-s 80mm f4.0

I am very interested on Mitutoyo Microscope lenses and plan to buy one.
I always work between 1X-5X magnifications and I want to increase magnification ratio above 5X.

Should I buy 5X or 10X?
Can I use 5X above 5X?
Can I use 10X between 5X-10X range?
My other lenses covers the 1X-5X range, does buying a 5X worths it?

I red nearly 5+ hours on forum but I need exact ideas from the members WHO use Mitutoyo lenses and tried the different magnifications.
Thanks in advance.

Just my opinion, but I'd recommend the 10x as a first choice.

1. It's one of the cheaper (less expensive) mitties new
2. More readily available 2nd hand - but risk of duds
3. 10x is with a 200mm tube lens. On 135mm you'll get 6.75x.This is perfect on a crop sensor but you get a little degradation of the corners and edges on full frame. Undetectable on "web-sized" images.
4. You can replicate the 5x FoV by cropping in on your Lomo 3.7images

Others will add more. Hope that helps though

Thanks for your opinion Beasty.

I use an APSC camera (Canon EOS 100D).

Most says the 10X on 5X magnification has better IQ than the 5X on 5X magnification. Of course on a APSC camera.

Now I am very happy with my lenses, I think they are doing great.

I think buying a 10X will be a very good choice, because all people recommend it.

Also I will have the opportunity to use it between 5X-10X magnifications with my APSC camera.
