Yes, 35W LED with collimator lens projects significant amount of infrared radiation onto the specimen. That's why I'm going to experiment with heat mirror.
Theoretically, I can use flash, but for certain applications (shooting outdoor in really bad lighting conditions) I need continuous light. And no, currently I can't use central control of shutter and light because my camera is a piece of crap - it doesn't have any remote option (currently, I'm thinking about Olympus Air).
