OK, that's impressive!

I am clueless about tungsten needles. Do you know a reference that can teach me about them?

Thanks Ramón. Yup - I figured the audience here is especially familiar with the butterfly wing scale as a unit of guesstimated measurement

Yes, very sharp. Any details on technique? And how many timesdid you have to staba pil of scales before you got that? Or did you manipulate them at the microscopic level?

Lou, I just held the wire in my fingers, resting on the table under a stereo, then stabbed a fragment of wing I had stuck to a piece of cork. Three scales came off (impaled) first go. I used another needle on a micromanipulator to push the scales back closer to the tip, and removed one that was too ragged. Stuck it in front of a 50x mitty running 33x onto APS-C and stacked it.
