Latest edition of the inch ant

Back again after more testing, changing this and that as advised here on the site and especially Rik. New image done at 1/8 flash 10 sec gap, diffused cover on flash. Newly cleaned low pass filter. Much better so lets hear from the experts now as to the directions of my adventures.

That looks a lot better at this resolution.

What do the details look like at "actual pixels" (just cropped, not resized) ?

That looks crisp, no hint of motion blur or optical problems.

As with all images shot through small effective apertures, this one has been blurred by diffraction. It could be improved substantially by strong sharpening.

The crop that you've shown here looks a lot better when treated in Photoshop with Filter > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask with say Amount: 100% and Radius: 2.0 pixels.

Here's an illustration, yours on the left, sharpened on the right:

That might be too much when applied to other eyes like the eyes, so you would need to look around and pick some parameters that do a good job overall.

Unfortunately there's an element of art in picking good parameters for sharpening. I often speak of "sharpen to taste".
