Microscopy post stamps!

Post by blepharopsis »

Perhaps of interest for microscopy fans and/or stamp collectors: USPS announced a series of stamps for 2023 called "Life magnified". Check it out!

Happy New year!

Very nice -- and congratulations on inclusion of your snail tongue!

Do you happen to know if these are all from Nikon Small World? I can match several of them against the 2019-2021 winners, but have not yet tried to find them all.

Thank you, Rik!

I'm guessing most, if not all, that were captured with a light microscope, were sourced from the NSW website. I can spot at least 2 images taken with an SEM, so those wouldn't enter the contest.

Best,
Igor

Ah, good point.

Using Google image search, I find the red blood cells at https://fineartamerica.com/featured/12- ... ssner.html (and several other places crediting STEVE GSCHMEISSNER/Science Photo Library/Corbis).

The green hair appears to be one of Dennis Kunkel's, visually identical to https://sciencephotogallery.com/feature ... brary.html with a horizontal flip and a black background.

The starling bone structure is a crop from https://www.sciencephoto.com/media/9913 ... tissue-sem , another credit to STEVE GSCHMEISSNER / SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY .

Google image search is getting scary good at this sort of thing...

And I see they reached all the way back to 2012 NSW for the mushroom gills -- one of Charles Krebs' images. Again it's been flipped.
