Two unusual ciliates

Post by dy5 »

These strange creatures showed up in a shore sample from a small lake nearby. They are both new to me, and I don't have IDs for either one.
[Nikon D850 camera and 80i microscope with high-speed flash. DIC.]

1. Flattened body. Fairly active gliding movement, but not speedy. Obviously lies to eat diatoms. Maybe something like Loxodes?

2. No idea about the ID. Doesn't look friendly.

Nice images, again!

The first one seems a dividing cell, and certaily it has a Loxodes look
