So does the amoeba live inside of the test as a separate entity or is it more integrated physically with it? Or another way, can it shed its test and start over?

A good question!
The amoeba builds its shell from collected residues: mineral or organic particles, diatoms ... (eg, Difflugia). The parent often builds the daughter shell. In other cases the particles of shell are generated endogenously. I think that if the shell is damaged and survives, it can be rebuilt again.

Wonderful video (and pictures), as usual =D>

The only aspect I'm not sure to like is the background color, in some cases with a light purple or magenta tint. Have you tried to do a custom WB before filming in order to get a neutral background?
