Amoeba - Volume 3 - A tiny amoeba with flagella.

Post by Walter Piorkowski »

This tiny amoeba, only 8 by 12 micrometers in size has a pseudopodal projection that started out an oval and expanded to a circle. It was the way that I recognized this little smudge as a living amoeboid. My eye had initially been drawn to this area of my slide by the presence of the Peritrich to its upper left.
I do not have enough documentation to hazard a guess as to what this amoeboid is. Having a pair of flagella does make it an amoeba-flagellate so maybe part of the Heterolobosea. There was very little movement by the subject and the flagella were not making swinging motions. The first image shows a nicely formed vacuole. The subject is from material in a decaying forest log.
