Another illumination comparison!

Post by gasman »

Hi folks
Tried some crystals of Menthol + Malic acid and thought it interesting to compare various illumination.

Pseudo-DIC

Pseudo + Pol

Polarized + retarder

I think maybe the pseudo-DIC shows slightly more detail ??.

But is it detail you're after, or shape and colour?
BTW, if the subjects are identical, you can easily combine them both by placing each one in a layer in photoshop, and setting one layer's blend mode to illuminance and the other to colour.

Sorry John just noticed your reply.
The pseudo method I use was suggested by a guy on the Amateur Microscope Facebook page.
The idea is to put some clear tape on a cover slip and place this on the condenser, put the microscope into dark field (by whatever method you use) and tweak the condenser height and also the condenser diaphragm to get the desired effect.
