Monocotyledenous stem of corn

Post by Olympusman »

Fancy name for a corn (maize) sprout. This was from a set of slides I bought on Shopgoodwill.com from Sears & Roebuck Company made in the 1960s under their Tower brand name for cameras, telescopes, microscopes. It is not a standard slide - the size is 2 cm by 6 cm, so I have to put it on a standard slide to use it on a mechanical stage. That said, the quality of these slides for what we would regard as "toy" microscopes is quite good.

Mentioning how things were made back in the day, in regards to things as being toys, they do seem to have been made much better. Back then there was this thing called craftsmanship that occurs only occasionally these days in certain or select products and if you do happen to run across it, it will pretty much max out your wallet and your credit card in order for one to posses or enjoy it. Monocots and diocots always make for some lovely prepared slides it seems. Nicely taken there Michael 8)
