Quartz crystal with petroleum inclusions

Post by Linden.g »

I love these petroleum enhydros quartz crystals. They contain inclusions of petroleum liquid, bitumen and bubbles of methane gas. The first imaged used an Olympus Splan Fl 2x, the second, an Olympus Splan 4x. Both were lit with dark field ring lighting in combination with cross polarized light. The third image was excited with UV light to show that the petroleum is fluorescent. All were focused stacked.

Thanks you. This inclusion is incredibly complex.

Two more examples. The last one showing much more diffuse structures.
