Darkfield Flash

Post by micro_pix »

.

I've been having a go with the "flash/led attachment" I bought from Saul.

My bird bath is always a reliable source of this particular rotifer and Haematococcus pluvialis (the former charging around eating the latter) so I thought I'd try out the flash in darkfield on an Olympus BH2 and see If I could get a decent shot of the swimming rotifer. The red area in the rotifer was as you see it, I'm assuming it's the astaxanthin pigment from the Haematococcus pluvialis cysts.

I like it! Dramatic use of darkfield.

Thanks for the comments. I did try to get a good image with its “wheels” out but, while the flash can stop the motion, there’s just too much light scatter because of the darkfield technique.
