Very nice DIC image, but I don't like the yellow-brown tone, do you see it through the eyepieces? In any case it can be corrected with custom WB at the camera or at RAW conversion...if you neither like it.

Thanks, I liked the DIC image better as well. This was my first attempt using Phase with my newly acquired Nikon DIC Achr/Apl 1.35 DIC condenser. Those are the true colors on both images but I did 'smooth' out the background considerably with the stamp tool and to get rid of all the dust motes. There was no hue or saturation used. The phase reminded my of anoptral phase setup used on my PZO Bioilar.

... I forgot to post this one. Just messing around. Obviously the black is done in Photoshop. Larger image is here;

Your photos are a good comparison of two observation techniques. I wondered for a long time which shot is nicer in my opinion. Finally, I chose DIC. This technique gives more elegant effects.
Some time ago I scraped off some stone residue and observed many diatoms in a bright field. But it was a failure. DIC or Ph are much better

Hi,

The DIC image is very nice. Did you use the DIC-A slider or do you have a special objective-side prism for the Planapo 40/0.95?

The Nikon phase contrast is very colourful :) But it wouldn't be fair to compare it directly to the DIC as it's an achromat vs. a plan apo with almost twice the NA.

The DIC image was with my Optiphot and this setup.
