Ciliates of Cohnilembus genus

Post by carlos.uruguay »

We have already filmed before ciliates of Cohnilembus genus.
We have found those of this video in very putrid marine water without oxygen
They measure about 85um (0.085 mm) long.
Resembling bottles with two candles (undulating membranes) at its anterior end, a long cilium long on his rear end.
Many vacuoles in their body
We observe how the biggest undulating membrane has a sinusoidally movement.
Dark Field, phase contrast and polarized light oblique
Objectives 20X, 40X and 100X
Camera panasonic GH4
Music: guitarist Victor Gomez

Beautifully done video, Carlos! Thanks for showing me an organism I could never see in the samples from my local pond.

Super. Your X100 oil phase contrast pictures are absolutely exceptional. Do you use auto or manual video settings on the GH4? If its manual, what ISO/shutter speed are you setting?

Thanks Dave.
I use GH4 without intermediate lens, all manual.
White balance according to the whitest area of the slide in adjusted to each objective and lighting
ISO 400 in oil objective
ISO 200 in the others
Shutter speed 120 in all the video

Thanks Phil for your kind words!
when the subject is moving very quickly, I have observed that with a faster shutter speed the movement can be seen more clearly.
I recorded to you an example video:
