Fascinating! Those spikes are a bit alarming. Is this some type of Acanthocephala?

Very interesting. We have a breeding colony of cormorants here.

Certainly looks like an Acanthocephalan. The head might be interesting to look at with polarised light to see if it picks up those 'teeth'.
