Re: Microscope for crystal photography advice

Phil Here are the simplest Olympus items, the A-POL polariser that sits on top of the light outlet (easy to rotate, easy to add a retarder on top of it), and the B-AN analyser that fits in the recess under the head: olympus-polariser-analyser-700.jpg Before I found the analyser, I used a disc cut fr...

Re: Olympus MPlan 10x/0.25

Pau is correct.

This objective needs to be used with an FK photo eyepiece for photomicrography, or with WF 10× eyepieces for visual observation.

The eyepieces are shown at the end of this brochure:

Re: Olympus MPlan 10x/0.25

The M Plan objectives were supplied with the BH version of BHM metallurgical microscope. I have not yet found a brochure, but I have the instruction manual: http://www.alanwood.net/downloads/olympus-bh-bhm-instructions.pdf There was a later BH-2 version of the BHM that used infinity-corrected object...

Re: Olympus MPlan 10x/0.25

Olympus M Plan objectives are intended for reflected light use, with no coverslip.

They are finite, designed for 210 mm tube length.

Re: Question about window on the underside of Olympus trinocular head

Jonathan

The Olympus vertical monocular tube (BH2-PT) is just a tube - there is no glass in it.

The inclined monocular tube (CH-MO45) has the same sort of window as the binocular and trinocular heads.

They are both parfocal with the binocular and trinocular heads.

Re: Olympus question - 20x phase contrast and condensers

Jonathan The BH-PC condenser that was made for the BH range has settings for 10×, 20×, 40× and 100× objectives. The BH2-PC and BH2-PCD condensers made for the BH-2 also fit the BH. The BH2-PC has the same settings as the BH-PC. The BH2-PCD has settings for 10×, 40× and 100× objectives plus a dark-gr...

Re: First photos and image editing

The Olympus (1990) catalogue does not recommend SPlan objectives for the BHT The Olympus BHS/BHT brochures only show options for D Achromat and D Plan Achromat objectives with the BHT stand, but that is NOT the same as not recommending S Plan Achromats, or even S Plan Apochromats. Olympus were happ...

There is an emoji "HAND WITH INDEX AND MIDDLE FINGERS CROSSED": 🤞

If the emoji is visible, it means that the recent forum upgrade allows us to use all sorts of Unicode characters.

E-mail notification of PMs turned off by upgrade

I don't often sign in to the forums, so I rely on being notified by e-mail when someone sends me a PM. Today I signed in and was surprised that I had some unread private messages. I checked my preferences, and notification of PMs by e-mail was not selected. I think this must have been turned off by ...

Re: Olympus BH2 Condenser Mount

Hi John Yes, my adapter is the same internal diameter all the way through. You will need to make sure that you can get the top of your Polyphos condenser close enough to the slide. When I tried an old Watson Kima condenser in my adapter, its top surface was 3 cm below the slide, far too low to be an...

Re: Olympus BH2 Condenser Mount

Hi John My micrometer calipers are cheap plastic ones, but here goes: maximum diameter of dovetail: 46.7 mm minimum diameter of dovetail: cannot measure, the caliper arms are too short and too thick height of dovetail: 7.75 mm internal diameter: 38.8 mm (seems too small, but I checked several times ...

I gave away my Watson Kima when we moved home last year, so I cannot measure the condenser.

I know it was much shorter than an Olympus BH-2 condenser.
