World Microscope Day – 13th April

You have probably never heard of World Microscope Day, because this is its first year. It is intended to help promote microscopy, and the date commemorates the first use of the word “microscope” on 13th April 1625. You can find out more on the website and the Facebook Group: https://www.worldmicrosc...

Here is a UK source:

I have bought some of these before, and they were good, but it was several years ago.

Re: Bought an Olympus BH-2 and a Nikon SC; I have some questions..

Javier Have you tried to use the MCA photo eyepiece as a normal eyepiece? If it is anything like the Olympus NFK photo eyepieces, then it should function as a normal eyepiece, although you will probably need to get your eye very close to it. If it does not work as a normal eyepiece, then I suspect t...

Re: Bought an Olympus BH-2 and a Nikon SC; I have some questions..

Javier I have lots of documents for the Olympus BH-2: http://www.alanwood.net/olympus/downloads.html There is a set of exploded parts diagrams for the LB objectives, which might help to fix the spring on your 100, and there are instructions too: http://www.alanwood.net/downloads/olympus-lb-objective...

Re: Trinocular Microscope Tube

Owen

You mentioned changing your Canon EOS 500D.

That is a good camera for photomicrography. It works very well with the free EOS Utility software, which lets you control everything from your computer screen.

Re: Trinocular Microscope Tube

Owen We are making good progress. What you need now is one the adapters that were common for 35mm SLRs. They are usually in 2 parts. The lower part clamps to a 25mm tube and an eyepiece fits inside it. The upper part provides a few inches of extension and has a T-mount on top. You will need a T-moun...

Re: Trinocular Microscope Tube

Owen

That is an unusual adapter.

Let's start with the vertical tube on the trinocular head.

1) Is the outside diameter 25mm?

2) Can you put one of the viewing eyepieces in it? If you can, is the image parfocal with the other eyepiece?

Re: Trinocular Microscope Tube

Owen Please can you post a photograph of the trinocular head and the camera adapter(s)? And tell us which camera you are using? C-mount cameras have only a short distance from the front of the camera to the sensor. Canon EOS digital SLRs have a much longer distance, so an EOS digital SLR will not no...

Re: Even DF illumination for 4x objective

Which Nikon series condensers fit, Alan? John I do not have a Nikon catalogue that shows their condensers with a circular dovetail fitting, so I do not know exactly which dark-ground condenser I had. I still have a Nikon Achromat NA 0.85 condenser that fits my BH-2, but I don't know its model name ...

Re: Even DF illumination for 4x objective

The Olympus condenser dovetail is slightly bigger than the Nikon one. It is definitely possible to use Nikon condensers on Olympus microscopes; I used a Nikon dark-ground condenser on my BH-2 until I found a cheap Olympus one. It may not be possible to use Olympus condensers on Nikon microscopes, I ...

Re: Olympus BH-2 Camera adapter

Phil I guess your MCA photo eyepiece is similar to the Olympus NFK 2.5× (intended for 35mm film, so ideal for full-frame digital); the top part is narrow enough to slide down inside the circular dovetail and sit properly on the ledge. So all you need is an Olympus Photomicro Adapter L (or equivalent...

Re: Microscope purchase advice

Phil For that amount of money you could easily buy a used trinocular microscope with good objectives from one of the big 4 companies, Leica/Leitz, Nikon, Olympus and Zeiss. For example an Olympus BH-2 with SPlan objectives. There are free PDFs of Olympus catalogues and instructions here: http://www....
