Re: On camera flash diffusers
Not a ring, since it doesn't need to go below the lens. Just a big flap on top and a little bit on the sides of the lens, slightly overhanging the subject. Just cut a hole in the plastic the same diameter as your lens and it will press right on and stay there if you do it right. I still need to dir...

Re: On camera flash diffusers
I think a much better solution is to put a plastic diffuser (cut from a translucent gallon container of milk or alcohol or something) on the lens front ring, and aim the undiffused flash at this. This is generally better than a diffuser on the flash because it is closer to the subject and therefore...

Re: On camera flash diffusers
Yay or nay? yes this will work but before you invest money try a translucent paper bag fixed with a rubber band to your flash. At the close macro range you have plenty of light from your flash, you must not take care about reflector efficiency. https://digital-photography-school.com/diy-flash-diffu...

On camera flash diffusers
I was thinking of getting something that's easier to use while outdoors that I can just whip out for a quick macro shot rather than fumbling with a cumbersome bracket and cable, and I saw these diffusers. They fasten with velcro. Normally they are used for portraits, the flash being bounced upwards ...

Grey lichen on fence post
Quite a few patches of this on the concrete fence posts in the garden, and it changes colour depending on the humidity. After rain they're quite green!

Could they be residual processes from when the adult hatches from the pupal case, and expands the wings?

Taken on the kitchen windowsill, handheld using my Canon Speedlite on a bracket with ball and socket head. Its not an ideal set up but I can't afford a ring flash.

Re: Wanting a ring light
I didn't get a ring light, just a ball and socket joint for my existing flash bracketMarkSturtevant wrote: ↑Sat Jan 01, 2022 10:01 amLooking forward to seeing results. A real advantage of ring flashes is the small amount of space they take up at the end of the lens. You can more easily stick it into brush without disturbing everything.

Re: Wanting a ring light
In the end I ordered a ball and socket head with cold shoe mount. I will mount it on my C shaped bracket and put my Canon speedlight on top, see how that goes.
