Re: 160mm achromat as a tube lens
Sorry, never tried the Raynox. I have tried several achromats though and the Thorlabs seem best-corrected. I still need to try the RRMs I bought a few years ago. All my old tests need to be redone now that I am on FF, and I am finding some unexpected results. Having used FF for quite some time, I k...

That looks like an interesting series. Same question - any comparison to Raynox DCR-150? The 200mm one is pretty close to that.

Re: How to calculate the magnification of 2 inverted lenses for different systems?
Is it? The definition of optical magnification is object's image size on sensor / object size. This doesn't include the sensor size. Sensor size just crops a diffferent part of the resulting image. Another definition would be the object size when viewed / object size. For that you would need not onl...

Re: [Hands On] Venus Optics (a.k.a Laowa) Aurogon Macro Lens
OK, I thought about getting a grid pattern slide, but the smallest grid I can find has 0.5mm spacing, even under 10x, there are probably not enough points to do lens correction. Or maybe I should have, but I cheaped out to save a few bucks. Whatever lens corrections I've calculated, I used the Sili...

Re: [Hands On] Venus Optics (a.k.a Laowa) Aurogon Macro Lens
Some variables you didn't mention: Barrell distortion combined with the the length of used measurement line & stacking order. I have some numbers for a few lenses on another computer - I'll post them likely tomorrow. Those are based on a largish number of pairwise measurements and the focal lengths ...

Re: 160mm achromat as a tube lens
Considering that the longer Raynox is pretty good, that is good enough for this. Thanks!

Re: A very elementary question about cameras
To connect My D50 I just used a Nikon/Canon adapter ring What is a speed booster? And how does it affect image size? It is effectively the opposite of teleconverter. Instead of magnifying the center of the original image, it compresses the full FF image onto a APS-C sensor. The name speed booster r...

Re: A very elementary question about cameras
Well, if you have hooked the camera with the standard EF bajonet, a speed booster would theoretically have the same effect. Whether they are worth their price, I don't know AND they are apparently available only for EOS-M and EOS-R cameras in Canon world. I could be wrong on this, though. A teleconv...

Re: Calculating correct extension tube length and magnification for scanner and enlarger lenses
The focal length of the Minolta is what it is. It does not change when you change it from one system to another. Same applies to the extension ... when that is measured to the sensor. If you don't have that value, it gets more complicated. If you have the extension to camera flange in one system, yo...

Re: Advice sought on weird stacking artifact from mirrorless rental
Another thing caught my attention: In the first post you wrote that you turn the lens IS off, but the body IS is still running. In reality it is not. If you have an IS lens both IS systems are controlled by the lens IS switch. There is no way to get only one of them to work.

Re: Advice sought on weird stacking artifact from mirrorless rental
My first suspect here would be the long curtain time combined with hand-help photograpy. There's bound to be all kinds of movements within that 1/30 s and those are completely random between pictures in the stack.

Re: Enhancing sharpness and resolution with objective, how to set up
There's nothing wrong with it 1-2x either. On the other hand, 5x on APS-C is clearly too much for it. 5x on 24 MP full frame seems somewhat soft, but acceptable. Everyone has different sharpness limits, though.Marcepstein wrote: ↑Sat Jun 03, 2023 8:53 pmIve actually had some excellent results with the MP-e65, especially around 2-3x.

Re: Detail depending on the depth of field and the selected step
Rik, correct me if I'm wrong. As a tube, I want to use the lens "Canon ef 70-200mm" + adapter "Fringer EF-FX II Pro". If I set the focal length to 200 mm and put a 10X microscope objective, then the depth of field will be 7 microns. Now I want to reduce the focal length on the "Canon ef 70-200mm", ...
