Charlton, I have had good success with building add-on diffusers from white craft foam. It is easy to cut and glue together. I made a prototype from card stock and used it as a pattern when I was satisfied with the design. Here is the product I used from a local craft store: http://www.joann.com/dar...

Harold,

The second one is my favorite. I like the delicate colors and the texture of the petals.

I something similar in my garden. Maybe it will bloom this year.

I forgot to mention that you have to figure out how to hold your camera and the diffuser at the same time. I solve the problem with a tripod for the camera and use my free hand for the diffuser. You might consider some sort of device to hold your DIY diffuser if that is the way you go.

Charlton, I too, live in a desert. We receive about 18 inches of rain on average and it comes during 4-5 months and no rain and no clouds for the rest of the year. The light is really harsh except during the twilight hours. I use a diffuser to shield my subjects from direct sunlight and use flash to...

Charlton, Another interesting plant. What do you think about darkening the hot white part of the bloom on the right side of the flower? I have been experimenting with reducing the overall exposure of shots like this with light backgrounds and adding some extra exposure with the flash. The background...

It took several looks to see the aphid. I am surprised how often insects I didn't see show up on the image later.

Kurt,

It really does blend in well. The lizards I see here in Southern California have skinny tails compared to this one.

Just the texture of the tree without the lizard is a great photo.

Kurt,

Your flora are equally impressive. The mushrooms growing vertically along the tree trunk are especially nice.

Kurt,

These are remarkable. You seem to have an infinite supply of different subjects.

Do you have any unusual flora to share?
