Those long focal length process lenses were designed for mag ratios around 1:1, so are probably not going to work well as a tube lens for infinity-corrected objectives.

Edited to add: the extension required even for infinity focus is also fairly prohibitive.

I'd make recommendations but I do all my work on APS-C, so can't tell you what lenses are best for FF coverage. The tests at coinimaging.com are also done on APS-C I believe (Nikon D200 or D300).

Got my copy of the SK Xenon Emerald 50mm f2.2 and did a quick test at ~1:1. Here are the overall shots and then center crops at f2.2, f3.3, f4, and f5.6. f2.2 http://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad273/rparkhurst/IMG_4305.jpg f3.3 http://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad273/rparkhurst/IMG_4306.jpg f4 htt...

Thanks Johan. I'm sending my K3-II back as its PSR mode was the only reason I bought it. If the K1 can align the images during rendering then it's an option. I read somewhere that this was part of the PSR process but it may have only been referring to the K1. I requested from the K1 owner to do some...

Pentax K3-II

I became interested in Pentax's Pixel Shift Resolution mode based on some favorable results with coin photography published on another forum. The OP purchased a Pentax K1, and was showing nice images of a US Large Cent. I did a bit of research and found that the K3-II and K1 have the same Pixel Shif...

I did indeed pick up one of these to include in my 80mm shootout, which is progressing slowly. I'm basically hung-up on how to display the results, wanting to do the animations I've previewed, but conflicted about their limitations. Anyway, I did a quick check with the AGFA lens and can say it is e...

Calculating effective aperture with teleconverter

I want to make sure I am calculating effective aperture correctly for a lens used with a teleconverter. I think the calculation should be made in order from object to sensor, looking at the objective lens + extension as a black box that the teleconverter acts upon, rather than looking at the whole s...

I ended up picking up a copy of this lens from eBay UK. Thanks for the link AK. I'll add it to my test group. My shootout is moving along very slowly so there is time to add it.

may be a little late.... Have you looked at the Agfa 80/4 repromaster? No, I've never owned an Agfa lens. Checking eBay I see a 80/4.5 Repromaster: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Agfa-80mm-1-4-5-repromaster-/351678686256?hash=item51e1aee430:g:cMwAAOSwu1VW6DbF The mount on this one seems quite roughly-done...

Hi Ray,

Can you give more details about this lens ? I found Rodenstock 108mm LFOV , 110mm LFOV , not sure are they the same you tested ?

Thanks,

Sorry, typo. Not 105mm, but 108mm.

I have not tested a M-Componon 80/4, though I did look for one at a reasonable price when I was sourcing lenses for my 80mm shootout and could not find one I wanted to take a chance with. I did own a 90ACHM a while back, and while a reasonably capable lens, it fell short of what I could achieve with...

I have more than one of some of these, perhaps I should go to LA (Lenses Anonymous). Copies can vary, so deductions are unreliable. But show me a picture, printed A3, from many of the lenses we've discussed here, and I doubt I'd be able to tell which lens took it. I might guess at which ones didn't...
