Re: Microscope for crystal photography advice
For biological use the SP150 looks like a sound choice. For higher magnifications, which you will probably want, you'll use the condenser and turret to swap objectives, which your rail is lacking. The "advanced" polarising kit which gives you a rotating lower pol would be the one to go for. The dark...

Very nice - what "tube" lens are you using on the UM-2?

Re: Interesting stuff
I've been offline a while, and missed this. My uncle was a watchmaker, his workroom had a lifetime's collection of materials like Ray's. He used his "set of turns", which I think he'd made himself, rather than a full lathe. I made a couple of replacement pinions and bushed a couple of tiny watch pla...

Beauties, but do you have any idea why some of the chloroplasts don't seem to be "turned on". Bleaching?
I thought "Royal Blue" was tradiitonal exciter, ~430nm, though I expect the difference would be quantitative only.

Re: Fluorite with masking tape
Interesting, and well taken. I imagine heat, or something may have diffused into the more active sites on the structure, during or after its browth, but I have no idea what. It doesn't seem to be common? UV result may reveal something because it's the impurities which fluoresce. Pure CaF2 doesn't. L...

I imagine there are several tonnes of detail we can't discern, there, Bob. Do you have it larger anywhere?

Re: Autumn mantid
I like that a lot. The composition with the orange parts probably isn't one you'd find in a book, but they add warmth and contrast to the animal.

HI Flevioma.
A 600D is fine
I'm moving this to "Beginners macro". Do have a look there, there are some good answers.
How close Macro do you want to go? (In field-of-view terms?)

Zeiss and Leica
...are about the only well known organisations whose boxes I tick to receive all the stuff they offer. I urge you do try - they don't take liberties. The Zeiss calendar is a bit special, though it bewilders me. The latest from Leica - for me every article was worth reading : https://www2.leicabiosys...

Re: First Stacks with Lomo 3,7 x 11 need guidance...
They look pretty successful to me :D The two things to keep under control are 1) lighting diffusion. You have discovered how light you probably thought was pretty flat, gives you a contrasty image. It's a good exercise to first use multiple flashes, or diffusers and reflectors, to get it as absolute...

Re: Q: circular polar filter/analyzer for DSLR+tube lens+plan APO setup?
Sorry you didn't get an answer ( I don't think it was covered inthe later post) Chris S. is away at the moment, and I'm not sure if he fitted a n analyzer to his Bratcam. He'll be happy to give details if he did. Between the Objective and the"tube" lens the bundles of light are parallel (if tube len...
