Nice setup. A couple questions, please describe your positioning fixture, how does the 180 f2.8 work with the Mit objective, and do you get good illumination uniformity from your clever light tent? I used a 70-200 f2.8 with the Mit and then tried the reversed Raynox described by others (Rik) here. I...

I noticed on the setup daemonoropsis has, that a iris diaphragm is being utilized behind the objective lens (# 4 in the images). This is between the 200mm lens and objective. The setup is really well done. Does anyone know the source of the iris diaphragm and what adapters are needed to get to the s...

Help with reply
Hi Chris, Rik, others, Not sure where to post this. I can't seem to get a reply to my private message to be sent. I tired 3 times with no luck. Seems the reply is stuck in the "Outbox" and does not show being sent in the "Sentbox". I have replied before to Chris (12/16), it worked then. I only have ...

Chris, Thanks. I'll order some hi-tack flocking today. The other day I stopped by Michael's Art supplies and picked up some black thick drawing paper, suspecting that lens assemble internal reflections might be a problem. I might try this until the proper material arrives. Did you need to need to sh...

Tube lens question
Hello, Has anyone had issues with internal reflections within the makeshift lens tube which is made up of low cost 42mm screw sections? I am referring to the technique of using an objective with an adapter to a reversed Raynox as a "tube lens", then an adapter to a 42mm threaded screw section that i...

Just a shot in the dark. But check to see in your D800/e camera setting if you have 'Long Exposure Noise Reduction' set as ON. I suppose it depends if you are using Live View On during creating the whole stack, if this might be your problem What happens is, if this is set to ON, the camera will tak...

Denis, Peter, I used a Nikon 70-200 VR as a "tube" lens with the Mit objectives. After some reviews here by folks I decided to try the Raynox reversed as the "tube" lens. These are $65 at B&H, and the other adapters only amount to $50 or so. The Raynox was a little sharper than the 70-200 with the M...

Interesting, Mike. Having never shot TIFF, I hadn’t thought about how much bigger TIFF files are than raws, but of course, they are. Is there any reason you would want to shoot in TIFF? I use both raw and jpeg workflows for macro stacking, but have never found a reason to produce TIFF files in-came...

I suspect that Canon has similar issues with the buffer overflowing. Sure, any camera will do this. Whenever system throughput is less than bytes/frame * frames/sec, something is going to get dropped. Refusing to take individual frames is the usual behavior. All the other alternatives like writing ...

I got exactly 250 exposures but still a few very thin OOF ribbons which are due to vibration and not sequence issues. I watched the camera/memory busy LED and didn't see any missed trigger commands. At least I understand the buffer memory speed issues now and can hopefully avoid this in the future. ...
