Tanner, some stray thoughts: The system you linked to has a big disadvantage in that it has integrated graphics--this is to say that graphics processing is handled on the motherboard, instead of on a separate graphics card. While most photo processing does not, ironically, require a top of the line ...

Re: Yongnuo RF-603 transceivers ?
(Yonguo 603 units). . . seem to have addressed some of the things that bugged me about the Rf-602 units (batteries, connectors, different rx and tx) I'm pleased with my Yonguo 602 units. While not a deal-breaker by any means, I doubt I'd like having the large 603 transceiver sitting on my hotshoe, ...

I've found subject movement due to flash to be a really big problem, and have experimented with it quite a bit. Two conclusions: 1) The most important (and difficult to deal with) source of movement from flash appears to be Rik's case #1--the subject absorbs light and heats up quickly, exciting near...

Keith, as Rik said, it looks pretty good. And as you say, you probably didn't need such a tight increment as 0.5 for this combination of lens, f/stop, and magnification. To approximate what increment you do need, I'd suggest making a test folder on your computer, and copying every n'th image into it...

as i focus up and down the blown reflection will glow green to purple..i just drop the light down and its gone... Makes sense, Sonynut. But in my (non-coin) subjects, I can rarely drop the light enough to get rid of the fringing without losing the darker regions. Also, I get purple shadows in out o...

Mark, your three test images are really interesting. On the test slide, it appears on my monitor that the area immediately around the numeral "5" is neutral, but that, pretty quickly, the out of focus numbers become purplish to the left and greenish to the right. It's not dramatic, but this is not a...

Good information--thanks, Mark! This sort of testing and presentation must take forever. I do have a question. In your review of the Nikon 135mm f/4 bellows lens , my monitor shows prominent magenta fringing on some portions of the example image, while your findings indicate: "Chromatic Aberration: ...

JW, I would't call what you wrote a rant. More like a well-articulated report of an important problem of a sort that could effect many of us. Education is a tremendously important thing, but the seizure, without payment or attribution, of your hard work is tragic. I hope you continue to brief us as ...

Paganel, dobro pozholovat' to the forum! Looks like a solid, innovative setup you've built--thanks for sharing! It's great to learn from other people's approaches. Your use of the Labophot stand to hold lights--in addition to performing the stacking movement--is new to me. My sense is that your ligh...

Craig and Chris, thanks for your thoughtful answers. I've spent most of a day thinking about them before replying. A difference may be that I don't want to interact with my camera; rather, I want to interact with my subject. I want the camera to evaporate, leaving me and the subject in as direct a c...

Welcome to the forum, Bruce! I think you are generally on the right track—though the advice so far given strikes me as wise. Your approach is roughly similar to portions of my own rig, the Bratcam . A few questions/observations: Glad to hear you will be going with a flat adapter between your objecti...

Here is a recent discussion that included links to appropriate adapters for mounting your new objective to a camera lens--assuming your objective has the same threading as current Mitutoyo objectives: http://photomacrography.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13583
