Re: Question about window on the underside of Olympus trinocular head

FWIIW, there has been a discussion on a german forum concerning an Olympus SWF trinotube that showed an uneven field in DIC, not due to the DIC unit. It was concluded that there must be a depolarizer installed in the head that has been removed. So you might want to check also the effect in polarized...

Re: "Disastrous" (completely unexpected!!) 100x oil immersion objective comparison

Film labels aren't really an option. Most of my slides are premade, many which are "vintage", featuring handwritten labels. It's sad to see them ruined, so I am as careful as possible when I clean them. Sure! You can protect them with hair (varnish) spray. That's how I made resistant labels in the ...

Re: "Disastrous" (completely unexpected!!) 100x oil immersion objective comparison

Is there a good way to clean slides? I don't like ruining the labels. :( Polyester film based labels (eg dymo band) works great, all be it a bit coarse in printing with this cheap kind of printers. And properly degrease slides before sticking labels and rub them then thoroughly on the glass. They c...

Hi, René - Well, higher magnifications are OK on the .55 NA DIC condenser for the Diaphot, but the results are inevitably limited and there isn't much point in using the scope as configured for that, to my way of thinking. If nothing else, using high NA objectives on the Diaphot requires super thic...

[Given the NA .52 limit of the Nikon DIC LWD condenser, and given the likely need/desire to use LWD objectives, high magnification objectives are of limited usefulness on the standard Diaphot. Don't dismiss high mag objectives for this reason. I've worked routinely on an Olympus IMT2 with 0.55 cond...

Nah, I was too fed up with exchanging the condensor top the whole time, and that in the lower, most used range. Sold it. But I know many people very happy with the older Zeiss DIC. A dutch microphotographer told me he loves it for its subtle effect. Kept the Zeiss Standard stand by the way. I think ...

My prediction would then be that the Zeiss system with a single objective prism that is located further from the objective would be more forgiving than the Zeiss system with objective-specific prisms. But the latter could probably deliver superior DIC when properly matched. I wonder if this is cons...

I meant how the background changes when you translate the prism, if you can get a full range from dark grey to strong blue/green/red with most of these combinations? Well, now I'm just being lazy. I shall soon be able to test it myself. Ah, oh yes, no problem. Very exciting for the first time, but ...

It came out to a whopping 7000 GBP, which, in today's currency, is equivalent to £35,000 ($43,000) according to inflationtool.com! Of course there are many things that cost a lot of money in 1978 that are worthless today. But it's still a bit thrilling to think about. Ah yes, lab stuff is expensive...

So I guess it's fair to say this DIC system is quite forgiving in the use of other brand lenses, which is a good thing if you want to settle with a serie that combines well in planicity and chromatic abberation. Some of the lenses I found that didn't work were Wild fluotars 10/0.45 and 20/0.6 (shame...

What. A. Monster. M LOL. They do indeed compete with english microscopes from the time for that 'industrial' look. Agreed, Olympus was king in the illumination system. Anyway, here's my system: http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/154_IMG_1737_5.jpg http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/us...
