Re: 160TL 60x-100x water iris objective
Leitz previously made a part called “IRTIS”. Basically a modified “Davis shutter” that is designed to be be inserted further down, closer to lens pack (which is theoretically better). I have seen about 6 older 160TL Leitz water objectives: 10/0.25, 22/0.65, 20/0.60, 25/0.65, 90/1.2 and 100/1.2. I do...

Sure, Robert, please keep it as long as you want. No worries. I would be glad, if it can serve other photographers/ naturalists better.

Re: 160TL 60x-100x water iris objective
Thank you, Lou. I would guess yes, on case by case basis. Some objective iris’ are located in between lenses (for more modern high power objectives), while some are behind lens pack. High NA objective may be sensitive to iris placement. Since I work with 160TL system, adding a variable iris to behin...

Re: 160TL 60x-100x water iris objective
For those who wonder why I need such an objective: My purpose is to use objective iris to instantly switch between NA 0.8 DIY darkfield and DIY COL, along with a phase turret condenser with DIY masks. Turning iris at bright field condenser didn’t work as well (not at all for DF and not very well for...

Re: 160TL 60x-100x water iris objective
Thanks, Lou. I do have 3 of the 5 water objectives you mentioned above, but as we all know, they have no variable iris.

160TL 60x-100x water iris objective
Dear all, I am looking for an 160mm tube length water immersion objective at 60x -100x range that has an iris aperture of around 0.7-1.2. One that doesn't cost over $500 USD used. Please let me know what brand, magnification, NA and other eBay search keywords. Thank you very much. As I also have an ...

Re: 8x Lomo objectives from Ukraine
Lou, LOMO made two versions plan 9x 0.20 (with or without iris) as well. I believe Robert O'Toole still has one from me, yet to be tested. I sent it to him in 2017 and then we both forgot about it. In fact, I cannot remember if I sent Robert my 8x or plan 9x. I am surprised to see that LOMO 8x was a...

Re: 3 microscope objectives, ? quality
Ben, The Zeiss objective, having a numerical aperture of 0.45, would need to be used with 0.17mm cover slips over your subjective. It would produce too much spherical aberration for macrophotograpby, unless you glue a 0.17mm cover slip over its top lens. You may want to get a metallurgical objective...

Re: Advice with objectives for TMD
Common inverted objectives (corrected for around 1-1.2mm cover) usually don't go above 40x NA 0.55. Above that, they get VERY expensive. For that high NA and photography, microscopists usually do "hanging drop" mount and use regular 0.17mm corrected objectives. Basically a highly controlled amount o...

Re: Advice with objectives for TMD
People usually don't buy inverted scopes for photography use. If they do that, they would have known exactly what to do / use. To recommend you better optics, you may want to share with us, your budget, photography subject (size / texture / transparency) and purpose. I am sure Pau would help you a l...

Re: Problem with knobs on Diaphot TMD
Albert, If you bought at eBay under "Business and industrial" category (not "Collectible" category) and seller sold it as "used", then you can simply ask seller to pay to ship it back and refund you in full. Document the defects with photos. eBay will take money from seller eventually and refund you...

Re: Advice with objectives for TMD
Albert, At NA 0.4, sing 210/0 (210mm tube 0mm cover slip thickness) objective will produce too much aberrations on 160/1.2 (160mm tune 1.2mm cover slip thickness) system. You can try to search "1.2 microscope" or "0-2 microscope" on eBay. But note some short objectives are not as good as modern 45mm...

Re: Minolta 5400 or 2400 with added iris vs Canon macrophoto 35mm f/2.8
Thank you very much, Robert. Is MP-35 sensitive to stray light? I will try tracing paper as shroud for Minolta F-2400. I always handheld shoot with IS on, with speedlite (flash) and without monopod.. My body parts are my monopod. For me, that works great: http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/viewto...
