Re: Debunking the high NA / coverslip correction myth
So my debunking thread got debunked? :| I'm afraid yes Well, I don't think so. Of coarse, it's always better to use the objective as intended (with coverslip in this case), but the point is that you can use a high-NA, coverslip-corrected objective with no coverslip with more than good result , outr...

Of coarse, it's always better to use the objective as intended, but the point is that you can use a high-NA, coverslip-corrected objective with no coverslip with more than good result , outresolving your typical 0.40 or 0.42 objective. ...

Re: Debunking the high NA / coverslip correction myth
OK but for the Nikon with NA 0.75 compared to Mitutoyo with NA 0.42 I hope for much more :( The Mitutoyo also is better telecentric what can be seen at smaller artifacts at the elevated edges of the scales. The crops I presented are from 60 MP Sony files, so if you are interested in printing, the b...

Re: Debunking the high NA / coverslip correction myth
That's a neat and compact idea for the diffuser. I'll try that for my Nikon TU 50/0.8... One question: I know the distances involved are very small, but the mag and NA are relatively high too. Do you notice any shift or change in lighting as the objective advances for stacking? Cheers Beats Yep, th...

Re: Debunking the high NA / coverslip correction myth
These pbjectives' WD is about 2mm, isn't it? So Macrero, how did you arrange the lighting? Table tennis ball, sort of thing? Apologies if you already posted it out somewhere. Chris, WD is 1mm. Lighting is logically trickier than with objectives with longer WD, yet more than workable with relatively...

Re: Debunking the high NA / coverslip correction myth
so finally I got the Nikon 20x NA0.75. Those shots were done with a Raynox DCR-150 tube lens, for the Nikon additional 50mm extension, PMax from jpgs, lightning may vary. Compared to the Mitutoyo 20x more magnification worse edges and a tiny little better center resolution. I think I should build a...

Re: Tell me how you can cover the magnification range from 6x to 8x?
So far I still don’t understand how this characteristic can help me choose a 100-110 mm photo lens...(( It won't help you choose a tube lens. The field number (FN) indicates the field of view (FOV). It corresponds to the area in the image that is observable through the eyepieces. Put in other words...

Re: Scales thread
Salamis anteva scales again, but at higher mag with the Nikon Plan Apo 20/0.75 + long-focused 213mm tube lens at about 23X on sensor:

Re: Tell me how you can cover the magnification range from 6x to 8x?
Oh yes, I was not meaning to suggest you were wrong, you're absolutely right. Some objectives like the BE series or many Mitutoyo objectives go way beyond their nominal spec. It's just good for people to know that it is not typical to get good coverage like this and they shouldn't expect it from ob...

Re: Tell me how you can cover the magnification range from 6x to 8x?
Using a 100mm tube lens on aps-c assumes an objective with a field number of something like 54mm. That's way beyond what any objective has ever been specced for so don't expect many to give great results, only the ones with the widest of fields. I don't currently own an APS-C camera, but I've used ...

Re: Tell me how you can cover the magnification range from 6x to 8x?
In order to achieve lower mag without vignetting get a Raynox 250 or other 120-125mm fixed focal length lens. And so, I tried to put a 10x lens on a Sigma 56 mm 1/4. There is a vignette + strong distortion on the periphery (lines bend in the opposite direction). I didn’t shoot from the rails, so th...

Re: Tell me how you can cover the magnification range from 6x to 8x?
Looking at your Flickr, it seems that your 10X objective works fairly well at 7X with the zoom. In order to achieve lower mag without vignetting get a Raynox 250 or other 120-125mm fixed focal length lens. I cant't tell if corner performance will be good enough at about 6X though. But for your kind ...
