I spy...What am "eye"?

http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/2_ispy_1.jpg The last time I posted one of these bird's eyes, Rik guessed it right off. I decided to make it a bit more challenging this time. :D There's no prize if you guess correctly, just the satisfaction of knowing your birds. :D I also posted this...

Hi ya' Dave, :D Regardless of the actual DOF you have to work with, it is absolutely imperative that you position the camera parallel to the subject plane and features you most want in focus. I say this after viewing the image of the syrphid fly. The body and wing on the right side of the fly are sh...

It's that time of year...Oh Boy!!!

Hi y'all, :D It's that time of the year and the cactus flowers are back in bloom :!: :D I'm not really a devoted flower photographer but I do love the cactus flowers so prominant in the southwest US. Here's a few I managed to photograph, today, while I was scouting hummingbirds at the local botanica...

I don't know, Rik. It does make me want to go out and buy a Ford Excursion, though! :D

Hi y'all, :D I was supposed to be in SE Arizona, today, but high winds forced me home :!: :x OK, gentlemen, I did my math too quickly. At 72 ppi the full frame image measures 48.875" x 32.569". The 800 x 600 pixel crop measures 8.33" x 11.11". It's still a pretty darn small crop to pull out of a lar...

Golden Wasp sipping water...

http://www.tomwebsterphoto.com/goldenwasppmn.jpg Hi y'all, :D I was sitting at a desert waterhole waitng (fruitlessly) for some birds to come to water. While waiting I watched an endless procession of Golden Wasps alighting on the surface of the waterhole, sipping water, and taking back off to part...

My preference is with image #2, also. I like the background better and image #1, IMHO, has too many tonal mergers between the body segments, wing, and the background. As regards digital composites, I have nothing against them at all. I do, however, feel that digital composites should be revealed whe...

Itsy, bitsy lizard :)

http://www.tomwebsterphoto.com/lizardpmn.jpg Hi y'all, :D It's been forever since I had the time (and subject) to post an image in our galleries :!: :D This itsy, bitsy lizard crawled up on a rock next to me to catch the last rays of sunshine while I was waiting to photograph some songbirds. I coul...

Just how much slower is this than a standard CF card? My Canon 1D MkII can accomodate 2 memory cards...1 CF card and one SD card. It's a pain to carry 2 types of cards and was hoping I could use the CF/SD adapter and only have to carry SD cards.

Hi y'all, :D This whole subject of what digital manipulations should be disclosed and what shouldn't has been a matter of controversy since the eaqrly days of digital imaging. If you spend time on any of the nature photography forums you will see this same discussion brought up almost monthly. Here'...
