Mayfly & stereo

Could not remember posting (or posting at all lately) this one before on PM.net. This photo got some attention in a small contest last week so I decided to restack, retouche, stereo-ize and post it. The most remarkable feature of this insect are the 7 eyes: 3 simple eyes (ocelli), 2 compound eyes, a...

I am glad that the humor is appreciated, Dave. It may sometimes be a bit strange because what is thought of as funny differs in countries. I always like a touch of absurdism. Nice suggestions for titles. I already thought of a title for the movie but perhaps you can give me some feedback if it is n...

Goes to show one must be careful ID-ing insects.
Never heard about it but seems to be quite common.
Here its nickname is 'penseeltje': paintbrush.
Very nice deep stack.

Not a caterpillar, shows more resemblance to some sort of lepisma, like the silverfish.

What an entrance, great first shot, Welcome to the Forum.
For a brief moment it looked like the eyes were golden, reflecting green pastures, a small mountain ridge and a sunset sky....
Is it stacked or single shot?

Thank you carrot9817 for showing us the diffuser.
It's a monster :D but very effective.
The cuts are there for portability to build or dismantle it on the spot I guess, very clever design.

I just wonder...are these shots staged? Was this bee still alive or fresh dead?
The posture and position looks very static on all shots and seems to be the same.

These photo's do not need a signature; the style, color and perfection all has their own 'Charly-like' signature.
You are a great inspirator, Charles.

So I understand you would benefit from a shorter gradient transition, in order to get it within the field of view of the Mitu, like these 52mm Chromofilters: http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/1225_DSC039651_1.jpg or the graduated neutral density filters from Lee or Rosco, although they d...

It's like looking at a paint sample chart: http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/1225_chart_1.jpg The colour are very equally diffused with no hot spots from the LEDs whatsoever. I can imagine your surprise at these excellent results from the RGB leds. The Cokin gradient filters would form a...

The whole construction is fantastic and carries a lot of lighting power, Frans. You are a wizard in mechanics (and electronics). I love how the XYZ table for the background light is meticulously constructed. I'm very curious for the results and how the specimen holder turns out, but knowing you ther...
