Re: Bees and wasps No4

Nicely done. Perhaps the wasp was about to take off.

Re: wide angle macro: a new 3-D printed adapter for lens combo

instead of using a CCTV lens and projecting its focal plan with a microscope lens I could use a full frame fish-eye and project its focal plan with a macro lens. What would be the difference? Smaller DOF? That was somewhat a variation tried from a previous link: https://petapixel.com/2020/01/27/bui...

Re: Mantis eye-cleaning brush

Cool stuff, Rik!! =D> The edges on the one side does give the impression of the brush hairs being like a lot of small scrapers. In the lower mag shots, pre-cleaning, I think I see that the bristles are a little bit hooked on the end too. One has to wonder about how this works on such a small scale. ...

Well done! It is so interesting that you can get several lizards in one frame. Perhaps they are gathering together to later spend the winter.

Re: A few shots from Wyoming

Well done! I like your style. I don't know why the pictures here come out in a smaller size format. My solution has long been to put pictures into my Flickr page, and then use the Share tool to post them here.

Re: wide angle macro: a new 3-D printed adapter for lens combo

Here is an example of a CS mount fisheye lens. It may be that the quality of these mounts is higher than the smaller 12mm thread lenses, but I don't know. It is a bigger lens, though I think not nearly as big as the picture implies. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FWRBPXP/?coliid=IDTP2YGNQYM73&colid=1V...

Re: wide angle macro: a new 3-D printed adapter for lens combo

I got better results with crop sensor in that I could get rid of the vignetting. The quality of the cctv lenses probably varies a lot, and I suspect (with very little experience, actually) that if one goes for a more extreme wide angle fish-eye cctv lens like 180^o, the quality goes down. I used 3 o...

Re: wide angle macro: a new 3-D printed adapter for lens combo

That is great! Thank you for the update on that. So what he has shown is that you can put in a macro lens directly onto a camera, and adapt a Raynox and then the CCTV lens on that.

Re: Mixed Medley Macro

I can also add that there is an interesting thing about the sharp-tailed bee. Although it is a leaf-cutter bee, it is a kleptoparasitic species, meaning that it does not make its own nest. Rather, it locates the nest hole of another leaf-cutter bee, and it lays an egg inside of it.

Very nice! We have the same species of spider. It is so amazing how they can make this small orb web across the cup of a curled leaf. =D>
