I'm for the Raspberry Pi and Trinamic external stepper controller combo. I'm using the Mike Labs Trinamic stepper boards (as well as my own prototype 5160 board on another rig) as a hat on a Raspberry Pi: http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/5301_LEitz_box_1.jpg It all packages together ver...

Hi, I'm using a Prior Proscan 2 controller connected to a XY joystick and motorized stage. Here's a link to an overpriced example of the controller for sale on eBay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/PRIOR-PROSCAN-II-MICROSCOPE-STAGE-CONTROLLER/402048956864?hash=item5d9bfc39c0:g:2MEAAOSwkoleKiPN As the joyst...

BTW...That first shot of the 445111 hilighted how dirty the rubber around the eyepiece was, mainly because I used isopropyl alcohol to clean and it left a white film. I used some car cleaning solution (ArmorAll here in Canada) to restore the rubber. Looks a bit better anyway..... http://www.photomac...

Well...I had a simpler 10X/21 pair shown below and I upgraded to the 445111 model thinking they would be optically improved. http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/5301_wild10x1_1.jpg http://www.photomacrography.net/forum/userpix/5301_wild10X3_1.jpg The solid fit, adjustability and perhaps er...

I've been keeping an eye on the new Aputure Amaran MC light:

It's very small and dense and relatively inexpensive. I'll pick one up and give it a try as soon as they are available.

This tendency for some plastics to degrade and become sticky was my nightmare for several months last year. If there are ball bearings between the two parts they can rain down and scatter onto your worksurface and you will be provided with hours of entertainment trying to collect and repack them. Ball bearings can be rep...
