I meet a lot of folk far more eloquent than me with bent metal, a blowlamp or a camera, so I don't really mind if they can't add up  I let Excel diisplay more figures, and behold, the differences are there, after the 208 . I included the third table just for completeness, though note that the ...

"object" and "image" are reversed Yes I just noticed - I thought you might get there first! :D I've just done the thing for moving the lens , so that the sensor to focus plane decrements by 0.2mm each time. Made it solve a quadratic for each one, but I don't like the look of the result so I ...

AT last I found a use for Excel - never used it before. Stepping through the target at 0.2mm slices gives this, (for a "thin" lens of course) http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/3548/95755328.gif Moving camera and lens together would have only changed the Mag from 4.84 to 5.17 Moving the lens alone ......

That's because nothing in your images will be sharp enough to see them. OI, give us a chance! Seriously, I'm not sure why you say that. Camera is a Nikon D700, so I can switch to the smaller format with a loss of a lot of pixels. Regarding the format change, I've read several places (and und...

Stacking, starting from the ground

There are too many questions here – any comment on any of them would be welcome! I’ve read a lot here and elsewhere and I’m ready to have a go at stacking, but I lack the optimum hardware. So I have some questions which are aimed at getting a reasonable result without trying too many blind alleys wh...

I'm trying to order one as well.
I have some old enlarger condenser lenses which would be about the right size to focus the image of the gun head onto the fiber end. You need to collect the light, not shade it. I fear the white insides of the snoot wouldn't gain you very much.

Ah yes, the FAT microscope lenses. The memories come, well, trickling back. I did some metallurgy a couple of centuries ago.

Thanks

I haven't seen many on ebay. $129 seems a lot for a 62mm 6T , though it is a 345mm f5.6 Nikkor!

Now, with a fat long bellows.........

Ebay is of course splattered with things like Chinese close-up lenses. Do any of the cheap ones come into the "any good" category?

Nikon T-series close up lenses

I can't find any sources for these. Have they "gone"? I know they don't take you into very small territory but I used single element close up lenses on telephoto lenses years ago, which were just about OK. I assume the doublet ones would be a worthwhile improvement. The s/h vendors don't seem to hav...

Grow your own bugs?

I see in the local Garden Center one can buy a kit to produce Ladybirds/Ladybugs. The man behind the counter said they tried it, and produced dozens.
I wonder if anyone has tales to tell, or advice, on getting their portraits?

Golly gosh. And they put nice images on the glossy brochures, don't they? it can be had for much less $ (Nikon CFN 10/0.3) Proving to be elusive over here. The recent USA-only one made $152 http://i12.ebayimg.com/04/i/001/3b/10/f50e_1.JPG Without an array of Standard Bluebottles, or diffraction grat...
