25x lens on eBay
eBay item 140561638279. "Alos 22E Kodak Trimlite 24x Microfilm Viewer Lenses 4" Apparently a lens for microfilm/microfiche reader. In outer appearance, not unlike the JML 21 and 26 mm lenses and many others. I will not buy this, but if anyone feels lucky (or has reason to think well of these lenses)...

Here is what I figured out after counting all my costs: The total cost for one JML 26 mm f/4.5 mailed by registered letter to an address within the EU and paid to me via PayPal is going to be: 28 €. I can ship two specimens of this lens in the same envelope for a total cost of: 42 €. Shipment outsid...

My lots arrived today as well. As already mentioned in this thread, now I have a dozen specimens of this lens that I can resell individually or in pairs (this should primarily be of interest to members in the EU, considering the cost of re-shipping them). I was further slapped with about $ 65 in cus...

Re: MITUTOYO 50x
Hello, Anybody has information/reviews/picture quality about this objective ? Thanks, Saul I have no specific information, but judging from the diameter of the front element the working distance must be quite small (perhaps a couple of mm at most). It is not one of the M Plan Apo series, so it is n...

[...] It was great for what I paid but the red paint annoys me. I want to try get the paint off but don't want to damage the chrome. Any ideas? I would try denaturated alcohol (ethyl alcohol) first, on a kitchen paper tissue wetted with a few drops (not soggy, to avoid it from dripping or seeping i...

the front thread size is 34.5mm on both of mine... Those are the old style (pre-N series) Nippon Kogaku and Nikon models of the EL Nikkor 50 mm f/2.8 and f/4. The two N-series models have 40.5 mm filter threads. As far as I can tell, all EL Nikkors with 40.5 mm filter mounts have 0.5 mm thread pitc...

Before anyone starts complaining about people leaving no lots to other buyers: I just ordered 3 lots to save on shipment to Europe. I plan to keep only one or two lenses and sell the rest one by one and at cost if there is an interest. My own cost is about $ 16 per lens including the shipment I paid...

I assume that's an "easier but still workable". There's a bewildering array of Nikon CFI objectives. Am I right in saying: CFI Achromat series = okay CFI Achromat for Phase Contrast series = marginally better than above (but not worried about non-visible spectrum) CFI Plan Achromat Series = conside...

Re: Nikon CF Achromat 40x 0.65NA Objective Question
... The working distance is 0.65 mm - does anyone think this will be an issue for bright-field (incident) illumination or for focus stacking? Definitely. Axial illumination through the objective would be the only practical alternative to illumination at a 90 degree angle to the optical axis. The su...

[...] So much for what I had been reading, ie that "Luminars are what all other macro lenses are compared against". Well, that statement should be taken with a grain of salt. The Luminars I tested are indeed good, but there is only so much that can be done when optimizing a lens design that derives...

For anyone interested: eBay # 230612616018, Mitutoyo FS-60 with two Plan APO lenses: 20X and 100X (described as 10X in listing) for $1500 plus shipping. It sold last week, but has been relisted??? :? I never tried one, because the f/ratio is a bit too high to give top resolution, the lens design is dated, and overall there are several better lenses available in the magnification range around 0.5x to 2x. It does not look very interesting on paper, and your findings do confirm my expectations. I h...

What about UV light? Should not harm the slide itself, but should kill the fungus and spores. UV light (especially UV-C and UV-B) does not damage ordinary optics, and indeed does kill fungus and its spores. However, in this case the fixed tissues and pigments of the slide are likely sensitive to UV...
