Re: Out, out ##### spots!

Thanks, Chris. (I've also got the 20x ;-)) I took several shots of the white card with the tube lens alone using the common technique for finding spots and I see absolutely nothing. An inverted shot reveals sensor spots even better and that also showed nothing. Been using the same technique for year...

Out, out ##### spots!

I'm trying to figure out the source of some spots on one of my objectives. Here is a photo from the 200mm f/4 manual focus Nikon tube lens I am using both normal (all white) and inverted (the big blank space ;-)) that shows there is no dust on the sensor nor in the barrel of the lens. These were tak...

WTB or commission for building precision specimen holder

Looking for a precision specimen holder/positioner for use with my vertical stand. Subjects are mostly small insects stacked using 10, 20 or 50x. Need L/R and front/back movement and rotation. "Bend" (ala ballhead) would also be useful. Would consider automated control of some kind. PM me if interes...

Proof of concept

Here's a shot right out of Zerene using a Mitutoyo 50x. 135 steps, 8 sec exposure, Nikon 200mm tube lens at f/4. It can certainly use some sharpening, contrast and maybe a touch of saturation, but are there any other tweaks anyone might suggest? Just purchased the Mity, so trying to improve my workf...

Re: Finding the subject

In fact, when I shine the laser through the VF, nothing appears at the other end, both with mirror up and without. Didn't see anything in the linked post that I need to do to make this work. Any suggestions?

Re: Finding the subject

Thanks, Rik. Knew it had been discussed elsewhere and glad there are some good options. Hoping to get some decent images posted before long.

Finding the subject

I just purchased a Mitutoyo 50x and would like to hear any suggestions about how to locate the subject in the VF. I'm shooting horizontal for the most part and am struggling (as expected) finding small objects or portions of specimens that I want to frame up. Would some sort of laser rangefinder wor...

WTB: Stackshot 3x controller, cable to rail, RCA cable

WTB: Stackshot 3x controller, cable to rail, RCA cable. I have two rails and need another SS controller with cabling for the rail, camera and power. Let me know if available. Thanks.

best controller for THK KR2

I recently purchased a used THK KR rail. I already own a complete Stackshot system (though it mysteriously failed a few days after I bought the THK -- jealousy??), but I would like to purchase a second controller so I can have two complete systems. I also have my sights on a 50x Mitutoyo (one of the...

Re: How to increase the performance of Lightroom?

Why do you have to convert to DNG first?

Re: Stackshot gone south?

Reset performed: no luck. As soon as I connect the cable from the SS controller to the rail, the red trigger light comes on and I lose all control over the camera. Same thing happens when I connect the controller to the THK, so therein lies the source of the problem.

Stackshot gone south?

I'm writing here because Cognisys support is closed for the weekend. Out of the blue, by which I mean it worked yesterday but not today with no changes in anything, my SS is exhibiting unusual behavior. When I turn it on, the red Trigger light goes on by itself, and when I plug the cable from the co...

Ahhhh. That may be true. I do have the Laowa and might try that, or maybe it's time to try video.
