Re: Out of Macrophotography for the Time Being

At least nobody got killed or seriously hurt. . . . This. Let us rejoice in this . Nobody got hurt or killed in the inferno. Being deprived of your home and its contents must be very hard, and I sympathize. And your macro stuff is currently unreachable, with which I also sympathize. But I'm glad th...

Wow, I just looked at that coverage. There is one seemingly copletely burned-out room in the neighboring building, which I presume is your building. My guess is that they had drapes that caught fire and fell into the living room. I was thinking about putting some up to darken the room for photograp...

Very glad to hear that nobody was injured!

I'm told there were four 500 gal. propane tanks on the site. If they'd gone up, it would have leveled my building and set the Metrpark on fire.

Thanks.

I drove past after picking up a Minolta light meter (eBay) from the post office. The power company was stringing new cable.

Out of Macrophotography for the Time Being

There was a huge fire at the condominium under construction next door Sunday night. The fire was so hot it broke the windows in my living room and burnt out a couple of apartments closer to the condo. It literally melted the power lines in front of the buildings and killed the power to the whole blo...

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned overheating... I've been using a flashpoint evolv 200 (godox ad200) and after about 100 shots at 1/4 power it overheats and falls back to a 10s recycle time. Same issue with some cheap neewer speedlights. Any advice on how to go faster? Ideally with speedlights/st...

I wonder if the flex and play in the mechanics of gorillapod arms and goosenecks help stop them from unthreading compared to rigid Magic/articulating arms. That's always been a problem for me in the field with them, even when mounted vertically, it only takes a small bit of sideways movement with a...

Hello Danny Burk. As Rik mentioned I use the Canon 200mm f/2.8L II USM lens as my tube lens, on both Full Frame and APS-C cameras. I typically shoot wide open. Unfortunately, I currently only have examples at f/4 handy. These are my final full frame edits. Mitutoyo 5x. 200L at f/4. Canon 7D (APS-C)...

I assume your floor is concrete? Mine are wood and it's pointless to try to use a tripod and table!! What's the subject, and magnification? Is it by chance so "really light" like butterfly scales, that a flash is making it twitch? Just out of curiosity, is this effect similar to that of photons on ...

Topic: Generic Shutter Release Cable for Wemacro?

Hi, you might want to change the order before it's shipped. The wemacro uses 2.5mm cables, not 3.5mm. Of course, you can pick a 2.5-2.5 adapter for probably $2 or something. Before you posted this, I went back and looked at the order and it doesn't actually SAY "3.5mm", so it might just be a 2.5mm....

Yes you can. https://www.wemacro.com/?product=shutter-release-cable-3n-nikon Wemacro uses a "thinner than typical 3.5mm" connector, don't know the actual name. I guess it's called "2.5mm"? A quick Amazon search yielded results. I'll ask William and get back to you. I used a generic one for my Wemac...

Generic Shutter Release Cable for Wemacro?

I just ordered myself a Canon 80D.

I know that the 80D and my T4i use different shutter release cables.

Can I use a generic 3c Canon shutter release cable from Amazon or do I need the cable offered by Wemacro?

Hi mawyatt, I don't use any of my older tube lens setups anymore, I've switched to these because they have much better lens support with the multiple clamps, which BTW are both beautifully machined. The MJKZZ clamps are ~12mm thick and the Wemacro are ~15.5mm thick. The MJKZZ main body is comprised...

I can't speak too highly of the Wemacro. I work nights. It's very convenient for me to be able to set up a 200-300 deep stack and go to bed. When I get up, I just have to pull the card and import the images into Elements for post, export them as tiffs and run them through Zerene. If flashes can't ke...

Not a stupid question; my vertical setup flips to horizontal as needed. But I suspect his set up has more features which could be optimized for one or the other orientation. Rather than flip mine, I add or remove the vertical beam as required. Of course mine is only "portable" in the same sense tha...
