Betty, The clone offerings do not appear to be as prolific now. The first link below shows the Manfrotto Nano Clamp and the other two links show clamps similar to the clones I previously mentioned. ...snip... By the way, you might want to consider attaching the arms to something other than the breadboard that holds your camera and subject. This mechanical isolation makes it easy to rearrange the lights without disturbing anything else. Nah, I've found this to be unnecessary. Why have a breadb...

I use nano clamps on the end of magic arms. I like the Manfrotto versions but some clones are just as good....I think I have some spare clones.

Thanks for the suggestions. If the outer diameter of the hand wheel is greater than 20mm it can interfere with the mechanics of the stage when tilt/swivel is engaged. A hand wheel with a longer shaft does not cause any such interference concerns, but makes for a less compact unit. I've noticed some ...

Hand Wheels for Kohzu Goniometer Tilt Swivel Stage

Hand Wheels for Kohzu Goniometer Tilt Swivel Stage Does anyone know of a possible source for hand wheels or something similar for attachment to a Kohzu Goniometer Tilt Swivel Stage? I've successfully used non-flexible shaft couplers for want of a better solution. The adjustment shaft to which the ha...

Jörgen,

This is an intriguing result. Good detail, especially considering this is a 'live' subject and you are shooting cross-polarised through a plastic petri dish.

I like the hint of mystery in the lighting, it adds interest to the presentation and reveals the finer textures.

Scott, Good point. I'll have a look. The Metz Mecalight LED-480 units do come supplied with diffuser panels which attach via magnets. The standard diffuser does not hide the individual LED bulbs but I always have a secondary diffuser between the Metz and the subject. One of the main reasons I went w...

Gary,

It's been a long time since I used a Manfrotto rail. Stacking software is reasonably tolerant with regard to alignment and does compensate to some extent.

What camera equipment are you using for these stacks and what is the actual size of the subject?

Some pros and cons regarding FO halogen illuminators.....it can depend somewhat on the brand. Generally they provide a rather powerful, adjustable intensity light source and require light guides. They can run a bit noisy and can introduce vibration concerns if positioned on the same surface as your ...
