Very nice. Are there new monitors that display the full ProPhoto gamut?

That's a problem I wish we all had more often--a diamond too big for our diffusers!

The light comes from below, and iPhones capture the images and videos quite nicely. I was introduced to them by Stanford students I was guiding this month; we were able to look at and record videos of microorganisms like rotifers while we were in the jungle, no need for a lab. They gave away thirty ...

I know Rik said he's interested in opaque subjects but in case someone comes to this thread with an interest in transparent ones, they can try the 'Foldscope", a 10x or 100x (depending on lens choice) origami device with a tiny bead lens which is optically decent and very very cheap (like <$1.00). S...

That's a very nice video you've made; makes the point very clearly.

It was interesting to read about the two main kinds of CA: magnification differences between colors, and focal plane differences between colors. Now I know why one of the Photoshop defringing tools changes the size of the image as you use it.

You could make such a lens by coupling two lenses front-to-front with a paper stop sandwiched between them, and focusing the rear lens. Might work for very shallow stacks.

It seems to be red/green, which I normally see from LoCA.

Thanks very much Jorgen for the encouraging information. I'm very excited to have found this objective on eBay; your thread here was decisive for me. I work with alcohol-preserved orchid specimens that must be photographed submerged. I can change the alcohol to water for a short time.

I just ordered one of these objectives for my work. How do you manage to move the lens without ttransmitting vibrations through the water to the subject? I would imagine delicate plant hairs would move each time you stepped the rail, as the lens made little pressure waves in the water.

Yes, that bothered me too. But the resemblance was unmistakable and it definitely was not imitating bird poop like its relatives.

For me the main advantages of using RAW files are: 1. Much greater dynamic range; you can often recover blown highlights by lowering the white level or the highlights level or the exposure level or contrast level, or all four. 2. You can control the amount of pre-stack sharpening that gets applied t...

We thought about that, but as far as we know, the frogs it might be imitating are not poisonous, and are quite shy and flighty, unlike poison arrow frogs. In fact our Pristimantis frogs, the most likely models, are famous for their dramatic jet-assisted escapes. They expel drops of liquid as they ju...

The image is very nice but maybe you have used too high a sharpening or saturation setting or something like that. It looks very contrasty.
