Thanks for the info on this. Mainly it was chosen for simplicity, ease of finding parts and so on. Even with my rudimentary experiments on a temporary rig I'm already getting much better contrast, and as a result an increase in apparent resolution that was missing with my LED light setup. I'm now se...

Non halogen microscope illumination?

It's getting increasingly difficult to find suitable microscope lamps these days for Kohler illumination with older microscopes equipped with a mirror so I'm building my own. I don't want to use Halogen due to heat and I don't want to use LEDs for other reasons (I have LED's), so I'm going to use a ...

Very nice! Seeing these makes me glad they're so small, I'd hate to meet a big one in a dark alley

Gah, it's so frustrating.. I can find waterbears just about any time I want, but in all these years I've never found an amoeba. Just once in my life I'd like to see one in the flesh, as it were.

Nice pic.. grumble.. grumble...

Thanks guys.

I'm not sure how many here are using a 1903 brass scope as their primary instrument but it's giving me a lot of enjoyment, it's gorgeous to look at and it works excellently. It's my pride and joy :D

Excellent video explaining the technical side of microscopy

The video was posted recently by Peter Evennett and it's very detailed, very practical and easy to follow for those who like to know how light paths travel and where it all goes and how it all works. An extremely informative, relaxed presentation. Set aside an hour and enjoy. https://www.youtube.com...

Antique Bausch & Lomb difficulties

For years I've lusted over those classic old brass scopes but couldn't really justify spending a ton of cash on the one I really wanted so rather than give up, I found a really ratty looking 1903 B&L continental style that nobody seemed to want for $107. It cleaned up nicely after decades of sitting...

Hi everyone

I just signed up to say hello and hopefully have some interesting chats about gear, techniques, lighting and so forth. I've been browsing around and it seems there are quite a few people here that know their stuff, so with luck, I can join in the fun and learn a few things along the way. I've been a...
