<< Hey pp you are making me feel guilty ... >> :) Certainly not my intention - just making a suggestion so it'd be there for anyone considering messing about with this sort of kit in the future. There's almost always several ways of achieving the same goal and we generally just choose the one that b...

<< hacked off with a hacksaw. >> A thought / suggestion for those that prefer an approach that's ... ahhhh, how shall I put this ... somewhat less 'final'? :) Turn the whole lot on its head. << "When shot with a high quality lens, a 35 mm Kodachrome slide will hold detail equivalent to 25 or more megapixels of image data." >> Realistic numbers seem to suggest otherwise. Scanning a full 36 x 24mm frame @ 4000ppi produces a file of 20.43Mp Scanning a frame that's still in its mount produc...

I suspect its probably something of an academic question for many, because they'd need access to a slide scanner with a greater resolution than the std slide scanners that most ppl bought. Std scanners were / are around the 2800ppi region (approx) ... which equates to a file around the 10Mp / 30 Mb ...

Various interesting comments on Luminous Landscape about this topic - including an A900 field test and this link :) http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=tnwf2RShNV0 << It is hard to find out if Canon (or Sony & Kodak) actually has it's own Fab that makes it's own exclusive chips, since none of the manufact...

<< Does anybody know for sure what it was? >> No - I will have seen it sometime in the past, chuckled to myself and moved on. Staying with the rrps (in $) quoted on Dpreview - just as a reference point - 8k D3x 3k A900 2.7k 5Dii I'd tend to agree with 'Ken R' that Nikon are going to have an interest...

<< What remains to be seen is what Canon's answer to the Nikon is priced at when it is introduced since Canon is now obviously trailing in the megapixel race and will be anxious to respond. >> Yes - on several levels. I thought the D3X was $8K ? Certainly way beyond me. Personally, I think they've got an interesting time ahead going up against the Canon 5Dii - for way less money @ $2.7k (iirc) Slightly smaller file size @ 21Mp. Btw, I was referring to the (24bit) image file size ... 8Mp x 3bytes = 24Mbytes ... no...

Everyone's going to have their own 'take' on this and I'm not going to champion any make over the other. I use a Canon 20D - 8Mp ... producing a 24Mbyte file. In the days I used film gear (slide also) I had certain pics transferred to Kodak Photos CD (std not pro) ... and the files produced were 18M...

No comments on the use of multiple bellows rigs, other than to say I tried a setup with 2 once, when I was using the old D30 - and knew even less about stuff then than I do now :) Thing I find interesting about bellows, is that many ppl who seem to have bought them in film days to 'try macro' hardly...

Betty, you're welcome - I never know whether to put stuff like this up here ... or not ... but assume most ppl are (mainly) checking EB?
