Re: New Downsized Post-Fire Rig
Oh, that's only a VERY small sample of what's in the room.

Kosher Salt
My first serious attempt at a focus stack with the new(ish) macro rig.
Kosher salt on a piece of black card stock. Enlarged diffuser disk on the objective. First images taken with the monitor attached. Focusing is much easier.

New Downsized Post-Fire Rig
Here are a few shots of the new downsized macro rig. This is the first time everything's been put together since the fire that forced me to move (and breakdown and store everything) last year. The basic rig is the same, but moved (by the movers) to my smaller still life table. The rig obviates the p...

Re: Personal parasite.
I've probably seen them close up before, but don't remember the mouth parts looking like that. Of course the pictures I saw probably weren't from the UK, so probably a different species of tick. We used to get them out in the field in Missouri during ROTC field exercises. Back then ('76-'80) macroph...

First Post-Fire Stack
As some of you know, I was forced to move last year by a catastrophic (visible from space) fire in the condominium being built next door to my apartment. While I'm literally still unpacking (can't even get bookshelves from IKEA on a reliable basis), I have managed to get my much shrunken (and more e...

Re: Out of Macrophotography for the Time Being
I'm finally mostly back in operation back in operation. The movers left my rig on the still life table instead of the macro table, and I'm going to leave it there. There's much less space on it, but given that the rig fits almost perfectly on top of it, and I'll be using it just for macro, it works ...

Re: Out of Macrophotography for the Time Being
Still not able to do any macrophotography, but I've got my Wordpress site backup with a few pictures of arachnids and myriapods.

Re: Out of Macrophotography for the Time Being
Got the new PC built and my photos copied off of the old drive. MSI Mag Mortar MB with AMD Ryzen 3200 processor and 64gb of RAM 4tb HDD PC is up and running. Reinstalled Zerene today. Ran a stack of previously stacked images. I perceived it to be noticeably faster than the previous processor and 24g...

Re: Out of Macrophotography for the Time Being
As the saying goes, when it rains, it pours. My main PC with Zerene, Elements, and all of my images died. First the power supply died and was replaced, then the chip fan died. I got (I think) the PC running, but never could get it to boot properly. Ended up buying parts for an all new PC with 32gb o...

Re: Out of Macrophotography for the Time Being
I'm [mostly] unpacked now. I've still got shooting gear and some random computer stuff to unpack. I've been trying to get everything organized by category, and safely put in plastic tubs (with foam, where necessary). I've got my photography stuff unpacked and organized to the point where I could do ...

Re: vertical vs. horizontal setup
As others have pointed out, it depends upon the subject and the circumstances.
Rather than limit myself, I constructed a rig made with 80/20 aluminum extrusions that's easily convertible between vertical and horizontal. My Wemacro easily mounts to and dismounts from it.

Re: Workflow - New WeMacro Rail
That's exactly what I do and it works extremely well.bralex wrote:Question 1: is there any way to use the WeMacro controller to take the shots, but view the setup on the computer? The only workaround I can think of is the camera's MicroHDMI slot and a separate monitor.

All of the full size and oversized books have been unpacked(50+ boxes). Replacement bookcases from IKEA have taken more than a month and were delayed two weeks... assuming they actually get here next week. Macro stuff is still packed. It'll get unpacked and put on shelves next week until I can get t...
